JMS Winners at
Cherokee County Spelling Bee
October 12, 2007
Jacksonville Middle School announced the winners of the Cherokee County Spelling Bee. “I'm more excited than the kids! I'm very proud of them--they really worked hard.” commented Linda Brown, eighth grade ELA teacher.
Students in Linda Brown and Ann Jones seventh and eighth grade ELA classes began practicing after the beginning of the 2007-2008 school year. Teachers and students used the Merriam-Webster SPELL IT! Tricks and Tips for Spelling Bee Success as a resource. Students were responsible for 120-140 words per week. Twenty students with the top grades were chosen from Mrs. Brown's and Mrs. Jones’ classes. These twenty students competed in the JISD Spelling Bee held at Jacksonville Middle School. The top five spellers advanced to compete in the Cherokee County Spelling Bee held in Rusk on Friday, October 12. Students from Rusk, Wells, Alto and New Summerfield also participated in the county spelling bee.
Congratulations JISD Spellers!
